This year, decorating my Christmas tree became something deeper than just putting on lights and ornaments. It became a moment of choosing myself, choosing peace, and choosing a new beginning.
I decided to decorate my tree using natural elements, dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, quartz crystals, and wood slices I’m hand-decorating with felt. They may seem simple, but each one holds meaning, comfort, and a gentle, grounding energy that I wanted to welcome into my home this season.
A Christmas Tree With Intention
For a long time, the holidays carried memories that were stressful rather than joyful. This year, I chose something different. I wanted a Christmas tree that didn’t remind me of old patterns, old emotions, or old traditions that no longer belong in my life.
Decorating with natural ornaments allowed me to create something symbolic:
- A fresh start
- A calmer, more mindful season
- A space that feels like mine
I’ve gone no-contact with my family and parents, and while that decision was difficult, it was also necessary. I want this season to feel nurturing instead of triggering. A tree filled with traditional ornaments from the past might have pulled me back into memories I’m trying to heal from.
So instead, I gave myself permission to create new traditions, ones that resonate with who I am now.
Why Natural Decor?
Each element I added to the tree has intention and energy behind it.
Dried Orange Slices – Light and Warmth
Orange slices have long been associated with warmth, joy, and prosperity. Their bright color brings a little sunshine into the winter months.
Energetically, oranges are uplifting and symbolic of optimism, exactly the kind of energy I want in my home this season.
Cinnamon Sticks – Comfort and Protection
Cinnamon brings a comforting nostalgic scent, but it also has a traditional association with protection, grounding, and emotional strengthening.
It reminds me to stay rooted and supported, even as I create new inner foundations.
Quartz Crystals – Clarity and Healing
Clear quartz is known for:
- Cleansing the energy of a space
- Encouraging emotional clarity
- Enhancing peace and calm
Hanging crystals on the tree makes it feel like a place where healing is happening quietly, gently, and steadily.
Wood Slices – A New Canvas
The round wood slices I’m decorating with felt feel symbolic of a blank page, a new chapter.
They represent:
- New stories
- New memories
- A life built with intention
I love the idea that each one will carry a small piece of the season I’m writing for myself.
A Christmas Tree That Smells Like Home
Even though my tree is artificial, the natural decorations fill the room with scents that feel warm, safe, and comforting.
It turns the space into a sanctuary rather than a reminder of the past.
Sharing This Journey
I also created a reel showing these ornaments and how the energy of this natural holiday tree comes together. It’s part of a bigger journey I’m sharing, learning to build a life that feels gentle, present, and true to my heart.
This year’s Christmas isn’t about the past.
It’s about:
- Peace
- Creativity
- New beginnings
- And traditions I get to write myself
And that feels beautiful.
